How to Travel to and from Bandar Abbas, Iran – 2024 Transport Tips
1. Transportation from Tehran to Bandar Abbas
Distance from Tehran to Bandar Abbas is approximately 1280km (14hours) it usually takes 14 hours by car😨
I actually don't think many people would travel directly from Tehran to Bandar Abbas by bus. I'm wondering if it might be better to just spend $40 and take a flight.
Domestic flights within Iran are very affordable. The only challenge is that it's difficult for you to book them online.
You can probably make reservations in advance through a travel agency or with the help of a friend The price of a one-way flight ticket from Tehran to Bandar Abbas ranges from 3.8 million tomans to 6.9 million tomans.
The typical price hovers around 4 million tomans. Converting to dollars, it's approximately $48 to $86, depending on the exchange rate.
Flight times are available throughout the morning, afternoon, and evening.
There are various options like 21:00, 10:00, 18:00, 05:00, 06:00, but since the times differ by date, it doesn't seem like there's a completely fixed schedule.
Perhaps, information about land routes to Bandar Abbas would mainly be of interest to people departing from Isfahan or Shiraz To take a bus from Tehran to Bandar Abbas, you need to board at the South Terminal of Iran.
The price online is about 860,000-880,000 tomans(10~11$, 80000toman : 1$ 2025.04.24) Offline prices are somewhat higher(This is the online booking price, and the actual price may be 10-50% higher depending on the bus class when purchased in person) Schedules exist from afternoon to evening hours, and depending on the day of the week, tickets might also be available in the morning.
However, the schedule I checked shows mostly afternoon to evening departures. If you cannot book tickets in advance, it would be best to expect bus schedules in the afternoon and evening hours.
The journey takes at least 12 hours. This is the optimal time when there is no traffic congestion.
Tehran's city center often experience heavy traffic depending on the time of day.
At the bus terminals in each city, there are shared taxis that depart once they have collected several passengers
(I confirmed this in Tehran and Isfahan, Shiraz. I'm not sure if there are taxis that go to Bandar Abbas.
If they do exist, you would probably pay around $20-30 per person.)
If four people share a taxi, each person would spend around $20~30, but I don't recommend this if you have a lot of luggage.
Typical Iranian taxis have very small trunks with limited space for luggage. Note: Unlike other countries, express buses in Iran don't frequently stop at rest areas.
They typically make stops every 3-4 hours(or more), and on an 8-hour journey, I once experienced only one rest stop.
Prepare a budget of around $10-15 for ticket.
Caution: The exchange rate for Iranian Toman fluctuates significantly.
In 2024, it was 56,000 Toman to 1 USD, but in January-February 2025, it soared to 120,000 Toman to 1 USD.
Currently, it stands at 80,000 Toman to 1 USD.

There are boats to Hormuz and Qeshm islands every morning and afternoon. However, schedules may vary slightly between peak and off-peak seasons, and boat services might be canceled or postponed depending on the weather and wave conditions on the day. I arrived at Bandar Abbas port early at 7 AM, and the staff there informed me in advance that there would be no boats today due to the weather.
I was devastated, but fortunately, the situation improved a bit in the afternoon, and after waiting for 5 hours, I was finally able to board a boat departing in the afternoon.
Based on my experience visiting there, always keep in mind the possibility that boats may not depart depending on weather conditions, and visit early in the morning.

I don't remember the price well, I'm sorry. I'm not certain, but I think I paid a bit more because I'm a foreigner. I really can't recall the exact price... I believe it was around $10.
