Who Is Rhagaea? 

Rhagaea Pethros is the Empress of the Southern Empire in Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord and the head of the Pethros clan. Alongside Lucon Osticos and Garios Comnos, she is one of the three contenders for the throne of the Calradian Empire.

Although she is an Imperial noble, she was born the daughter of the Darshi Shah, giving her a foreign lineage.

She was formerly the wife of Emperor Arenicos, who died under suspicious circumstances.

As the Emperor’s widow and the mother of his daughter, Ira, Rhagaea claims the throne on the grounds that hereditary succession through the imperial family is legitimate.

Some Imperial citizens support her, believing that the Empire needs the stability of a hereditary rule.

After her husband’s death, her political and personal influence only grew. She became the most sought-after widow on the continent, yet she has rejected all suitors.

As the leader of the Southern Empire among the fractured Imperial states, she is a popular ruler among players. At the time of the game’s setting, she is 42 years old and has a daughter named Ira.

After the events of Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord, the fate of the Southern Empire is not clearly stated in the official lore.

Even in Mount & Blade: Warband, which is set several centuries after the timeline of Bannerlord, neither the Southern Empire nor any of the fractured Imperial states appear at all.

As a result, the following interpretations are commonly accepted among fans:

Complete collapse

The Empire failed to overcome its internal divisions and fell apart due to civil war and external invasions.

Absorption by the Sarranid Sultanate or the Khergit Khanate

On the Warband map, the regions corresponding to the former Southern Empire largely overlap with Sarranid and Khergit territories.

Survival as a minor state before fading into history

The polity may have lost its political significance, with only place names or cultural traces remaining.

Marriage with Rhagaea (Guide)

Marrying Rhagaea is impossible without the use of mods. In general, faction leaders cannot marry the player character, because if a faction leader were to marry the protagonist, the leader would, by system rules, become part of the player’s faction.

As a result, when discussing marriage with her, the game will most likely present the option for her to marry your younger brother instead. Despite the wiki lore stating that she rejects suitors from other nobles and factions, she is actually quite willing to marry in-game.😂

However, by using the Marry Anyone mod, you can easily marry her. Depending on the mod’s settings, she may either join your faction on her own, or you may become the leader of the Southern Empire—though you will most likely prefer the former option.

For reference, if the age gap is large, the in-game pregnancy chance becomes very low. If a 20-year age difference between the protagonist and Rhagaea feels excessive, you can use the Character Reloaded mod to reduce her age and add or adjust her attributes.
