Dark and Darker Arena build recommendation: Headshot Victory Strike Fighter with Halberd + Hand cannon

This is a Fighter build that lets you climb Arena rating up to ~2000 very easily.

This build has an 80–90%+ win rate against Barbarians and also does very well into Fighters who are not running longsword. In Dark and Darker Arena Season 2 (2026), especially in Epic gear lobbies, it is a highly viable pick.

Pros:

  1. Very fun and dopamine-heavy playstyle.
  2. Great for players who find longsword parrying too hard or sword & shield too slow/boring.
  3. Cheap kit – low investment required.

Cons:

  1. Struggles against longsword users.
    • Depending on enemy skill, you may need to play spacing carefully.
    • Try poking from max range with 2 hits, and if they parry, crouch to dodge or trade one hit and disengage.
  2. Weak against spellcasters if you don’t swap gear.
    • Especially difficult vs Warlocks and Wizards.

Build Setup:

  • Base stats: STR / HP (Health Bonus)
  • Additional stats: Agility + Armor Penetration + HP or STR

Movement Speed:

  • ~290 (unarmed) After the patch, movement speed is usually around 285–286.
  • ~303 (with gear swap)

Perks:

  • Armor Mastery
  • Increased Movement Speed
  • Adrenaline Spike
  • Veteran

Skills:

  • Adrenaline Rush
  • Victory Strike

How to deal with Longsword Fighters

  • Keep your distance as much as possible.

If the enemy Longsword Fighter is playing in a very defensive “siege mode” style and just sitting there waiting to parry, they are actually easier to deal with.

As long as you stay just outside their range and poke with the very tip of your halberd, their parry will usually not punish you even if it triggers.

If the Longsword user starts a thrusting attack animation, it is usually a good chance to immediately swing back and take the trade.

Against Wizards

  • Try taking early high ground (spawn areas or bridges) and look for pick opportunities by peeking, shooting, and disengaging.
  • If you want to go for a one-shot with the hand cannon at close range:
    Don’t reveal it early.
Instead, hide behind a wall, approach unarmed, and when the Wizard turns to run, pull out the hand cannon and shoot. It’s much easier to land that way.
  • Shooting head-on is unreliable — they tend to dodge, so you’ll often miss if you force it from the front.

Against Barbarians

  • If you land a clean headshot with proper spacing, you can win most fights.
  • Stay calm and aim for two headshots.
If that’s not possible, one headshot + two body hits gives you a higher chance of winning.
  • You’ll struggle more against Barbarians who run clubs or maces and rush into close range, rather than those using long weapons like felling axes or polearms.

Damage from the current build, where the Headshot Damage Bonus is capped at 180% and Physical Damage Bonus is increased to 43% instead.

If you want to compare it with the previous version, click the old 200% Headshot Damage Bonus section below and compare the damage numbers.

The first attack is a regular basic attack, and the second attack shows the damage when Victory Strike is activated.

Compared to the previous version, body shot damage has increased slightly. Since the Headshot Damage Bonus was reduced, this setup invests more heavily into Physical Damage Bonus instead.

Setting

Previous Version: Before the Headshot Damage Bonus Cap Was Nerfed from 200%
1)Head shot damage bonus (45~50%)This includes the headshot damage bonus from the halberd’s stats when the weapon is actively equipped in-game.

2)Agility

3)Physical Power

3)Armor Penetration

For the helmet, armor, pants, gloves, and boots, each piece should have +2 to +3 Agility, with +3 being ideal.
The next priority stats should be Headshot Damage and Armor Penetration.

For Action Speed, aim for around 10–15% total including your weapon, using the base armor stats plus accessories.
Any missing Action Speed can then be compensated with Adrenaline.

With this setup, a Victory Strike headshot will one-shot Warlocks, Rangers, Bards wearing leather caps, Sorcerers, and Druids. Even without Victory Strike active, characters with around 120 HP can still be one-shot.

If you land a Victory Strike headshot, Barbarians and Fighters are very likely to die from the follow-up attack. Since the second hit is easier to land on the head, two clean hits are usually enough. Even without Victory Strike, two basic attacks can kill most melee characters in Epic-tier Arena.

These are the stats when using the movement speed swap set. (Head shot damage 47%(with halberd)
The swap set consists of Chapel de Fer + Tidal Scale Armor + Plunderhosen + Onyx Gloves + Pigache.

Only the base gear changes — try to keep the item stats/rolls as similar as possible to your main set.

This swap set is essential because it becomes extremely useful when the enemy Arena team has two or more ranged/spellcasting classes, or when fights turn into 1v1 situations. After switching into this setup, you have a much better chance of dealing with Warlocks, Sorcerers, and Wizards.

After the May 28, 2026 patch, the headshot damage bonus cap was reduced 200% to 180%, and the Halberd received major nerfs to both movement speed and damage.

As a result, the build is now more difficult to optimize and has noticeably lower movement speed. Even so, it is still possible to make a setup that can kill most characters with two clean headshots.

Since both HP and movement speed have been nerfed, you need to pay more attention to gear swapping compared to last season.

I usually carried 9–10 bullets, swap gear, a pavise, and a crossbow in my inventory, trying to use them as flexibly as possible depending on the situation.

The pavise is useful against Rangers, Wizards, and Warlocks. The crossbow is mainly for situations where long-range fights continue for an extended period, so I carried around 20 bolts with it. The hand cannon is used when you need to one-shot squishy classes like Wizards or Rangers with a Victory Strike headshot.

After keeping your total Headshot Damage Bonus, including the weapon stat, at around 180%, replace the remaining stats with Physical Power, Strength, and Physical Damage Bonus.

In particular, try to prioritize the percentage-based Physical Damage Bonus option. Since this stat is less affected by the Physical Power Bonus cap, it is more efficient to stack this option as much as possible.

For Armor Penetration, aim for around 20–23%, and for Physical Damage Bonus, aim for around 40–43%.

With this setup, most melee characters can be killed consistently with two headshots. In many cases, one Victory Strike headshot followed by one regular headshot is enough. Some characters can even be killed with two normal attacks, while squishier classes such as Wizards and Rangers often die in a single hit.

Because the Halberd setup was nerfed overall, reaching the ideal stat spread has become more difficult.

As a result, you generally have to give up some movement speed. Instead of aiming for the old 290 movement speed range, settling around 285–286 makes it much easier to build enough damage. Your HP will also be slightly lower than before, dropping from around 150 to about 143.

test

  • Even when Victory Strike doesn’t proc, landing your first hit cleanly on the head is usually enough to win the fight.
  • Spellcasters are a big weakness, so I always kept a gear swap ready.
If the enemy team had 2 or more spellcasters, I switched to a light cloth/leather HP-focused setup.
  • I considered stacking Magic Resist, but decided to commit to a movement speed + burst damage playstyle instead.
  • Highly recommend carrying a cheap backup light HP set for swaps.
(Items like Plunderhosen, Onyx Gloves, Chapel de Fer, and Pigache are very affordable even with good rolls.)
  • Against Clerics, you can sometimes read their cast timing (e.g. Locust Swarm or Earthquake).
If you activate Victory Strike and land a hand cannon headshot at the right moment, you can occasionally one-shot them.
  • Against targets wearing leather caps, I sometimes got one-shots even without Victory Strike active.
